Is Anal Sex a Sin?

Is Anal Sex a Sin?

Maybe. I’m certainly in no position to judge whether anal sex is okay or not, but here are some facts that might help you decide for yourself.

First, let’s precisely define what anal sex is. Anal sex is when a man puts his penis in another person’s anus. It doesn’t matter if the other person is a man or a woman.

What does the Bible say about anal sex?

Leviticus 18:22 “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; such a thing is an abomination.” -NABRE

Leviticus 20:13 “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, they have committed an abomination; the two of them shall be put to death; their bloodguilt is upon them.” -NABRE

It’s pretty clear that anal sex between two men (sodomy) is wrong according to the Bible.

What about anal sex between a husband and his wife?

As far as I know, the Bible doesn’t mention anal sex between husband and wife. The Catholic Church teaches that pretty much anything goes as long as both spouses are willing, the act doesn’t cheapen sex or degrade your spouse, and the sexual act ends or includes the man orgasming inside his wife’s vagina.

Is anal sex safe?

The anus doesn’t seem to be meant for sex. Its walls are thin; it’s full of bacteria, transmits STDs/STIs easily, and doesn’t have any natural lubrication. A woman’s vagina, on the other hand, has thick, lubricated walls that can accommodate almost any size penis in most cases and even has its own cleaning system. The vagina is filled with nerve endings that provide pleasure, and the anus has none.

So, if you look at it purely from a biological perspective, the anus doesn’t seem to be meant for intercourse.
